The Emil Fischer Carbohydrate Award has been established by the European Carbohydrate Organization (ECO) in order to honor active carbohydrate scientists distinguished with contributions of excellence. Following Richard R. Schmidt (2009) and David Crich (2011), the Emil Fischer Award 2013 will be presented to Antoni Planas in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the Glycosciences.
Prof. Planas will present a plenary lecture on his work at the EUEOCARB 17 symposium.

Carbohydrate Research Award Lecture

Given every two years, the Carbohydrate Research Award was established in 2001 by the Editors and Publisher of Carbohydrate Research and consists of a cheque for $1000, a certificate and a complimentary subscription to the journal for two years. The Award is presented to a carbohydrate scientist, no older than 15 years past the PhD, who has made significant original contributions to the field, in its broadest sense.
Following Laura L. Kiessling (2001), Geert-Jan Boons (2003), Peter H. Seeberger (2005), Todd L. Lowary (2007), Benjamin G. Davis (2009) and Matthieu Sollogoub (2011), the Carbohydrate Research Award 2013 will be presented to Xi Chen in recognition of her creativity and outstanding achievements in carbohydrate chemistry. 

Prof. Chen will present a plenary lecture on her work during the opening ceremony of the EUROCARB17 symposium and will be invited to publish a paper based on her research in Carbohydrate Research.
